The EF High School Exchange Year Global Education Excellence Award is presented annually to high schools that demonstrate an "extraordinary commitment to international understanding and global awareness."
CIVA, an acronym for Character, Integrity, Vision and the Arts, was one of a select group of high schools recognized across the nation for the 2017-2018 year.
"By welcoming exchange students into the classrooms, CIVA has created new and unique learning opportunitities not just for the exchange students, but for the American students and faulty as well," Dan Sodervall, president of EF High School Exchange, said in announcing the award.
CIVA has 12 exchange students this school year, of a total enrollment of about 200 students. They became an integral part of the school's academic and extracurricular life, involving the greater community in the exchange experience.
Last year, the 22-year-old CIVA Charter High School won the Governor's Distinguished Improvement Award for exceptional student growth on state assessments, and became the first educational program in the Pikes Peak region to be featured in a Colorado Department of Education video series called "Stories of Promising Practices."
